VFMA-115 Reunion Association

VMF-115 was formed on 1 July 1943 at Santa Barbara, California under the command of Major John S. McLaughlin. Sixteen days later, Maj. Gen. Joseph Foss, one of his most famous aces in the Marine Corps, assumed command. Major Joseph Foss holds the Marine Corps record for shooting down 26 enemy aircraft in World War II. The squadron soon took on the nickname "Joe's Joker". In May 1944, the squadron piloted his legendary F4U-1 Corsair to participate in the Pacific Campaign.
